The Tire Track Eel, commonly known as the Spiny Eel, is a nighttime hunter and belongs to the Mastacembelidae family. Despite its name, this family is not made up of true eels. Instead, these are elongated freshwater fish found in tropical regions, characterized by the many spines located before their dorsal fin. To provide a suitable environment for this fish, a spacious aquarium with a soft substrate is essential. The Tire Track Eel enjoys digging into the substrate and may bury itself, which can disturb plants and shift decorations around. It’s recommended to add two teaspoons of salt for every 2.5 gallons of water to support the health of the Tire Track Eel. This species should be housed with other larger fish that it won’t view as potential meals. Sadly, there is limited information available regarding the breeding behaviors of the Tire Track Eel.
