Description
Bicolour Angelfish 4-5cm
The Angelfish (Pterophyllum scalare) has long been a favorite among aquarium enthusiasts. This social cichlid is generally more peaceful than many of its relatives and features a slender, tall body that sets it apart from typical cichlids. Native to various river systems in Northern South America, most Angelfish found in the aquarium trade have been bred in captivity for many generations. This selective breeding has led to a stunning variety of color morphs. To thrive, Angelfish prefer a well-planted aquarium with driftwood or rock formations and gentle water movement. While they are not overly shy, they do enjoy the shelter provided by plants and, due to their unique body shape, are less likely to hide in rock caves. They usually coexist well with other peaceful fish, provided there is ample space. Their territorial behavior tends to increase during breeding periods. It’s best to avoid keeping them with small, delicate invertebrates like dwarf shrimp, although larger, hardier shrimp and snails might be suitable companions in a sufficiently large tank. If you aim to breed Angelfish, it’s advisable to limit or eliminate other species in the tank unless it is very spacious. Feeding the Angelfish is straightforward, as they are not picky eaters. They will readily accept high-quality dry, frozen, and live foods. Ensuring a varied and nutritious diet is essential for maintaining their health and vibrant colors.
