Dalmatian Ghost Knifefish
The Dalmatian Ghost Knifefish is a variation of the Black Ghost Knifefish which belongs to the Apteronotidae family and the speckled knifefish group. It is classified as a true bony fish. With proper care, this fish can grow to be well over one foot long. It has a weak electrical organ at the caudal peduncles that helps it locate food. A tank of at least 200 liters with good filtration is necessary for its well-being. This fish is usually shy and likes to hide, so it thrives in an aquarium with a fine-gravel bottom, plenty of roots, rocks, and subdued lighting. Many hobbyists use a ghost tube, a clear plastic tube, to observe the Black Ghost Knifefish during the day. Once it gets used to its environment, this fish can become very friendly and even be hand-held. While it gets along with larger peaceful species, it may show aggression towards fish of similar or smaller size. As a carnivore, it enjoys a diet of live foods, chopped earthworms, as well as frozen and flaked foods.
