The Royal Panaque is a robust and potentially large fish that can make a beautiful addition to any adequately sized tank. With vibrant coloration and unique orange eyes, they are truly captivating to observe. Unlike the more streamlined plecos, these fish have a distinctive body shape that is almost humpbacked, with their eyes positioned close to their mouth and large, bulky bodies. Initially a bit shy when young, they tend to hide in dark corners, caves, or tubes until the tank lights are turned off. However, as they become more settled and grow, they often become more active even with the lights on. It’s important to note that they are more sensitive to temperature changes compared to other plecos, so they require clean water and stable tank temperatures.
