Uaru are large, friendly fish that live in small groups in their natural blackwater environment. The water there is warm, soft, and acidic, so it’s important to create similar conditions in a home aquarium, with peat filtration being a good choice. In their natural habitat, these beautiful fish like to stay in shady spots among plants and fallen trees, so it’s best to mimic this in the aquarium. The tank should be at least 48 inches long and include dark substrate and decorations. Keep the lighting low and add plenty of bogwood and strong plants for a good setup.
