The Snowball Pleco is mainly active at night, but once settled in an aquarium with plenty of driftwood, rockwork, and hiding spots, it may also come out during the day. Unlike some plecos, it doesn’t consume wood excessively, but it can benefit from some additional wood or bio-film on driftwood. This species is plant-friendly and not a great algae-eater. Make sure to provide a balanced diet of meaty and vegetable-based foods, such as high-quality vegetable flakes, sinking algae wafers, pellets, and fresh veggies like peas, spinach, zucchini, and cucumber. Meaty foods like bloodworms are essential for this species, especially when compared to other plecos. To thrive, the Snowball Pleco needs a well-maintained aquarium with moderate to high water flow.
