Description
Redback Bleeding Heart Tetra 3-4CM
The Redback Bleeding Heart Tetra is a much rarer species compared to its relative, the Bleeding Heart Tetra (M. erythrostigma). As their name implies, Red Backs are significantly more vibrant and are highly desired for lush, softwater aquariums. It’s essential that the tank is well-established, and we recommend using peat filtration to ensure the long-term health of this blackwater species. For the best results, the aquarium should be dimly lit, featuring ample bogwood and dense plant growth to closely mimic their natural environment. Red Back Bleeding Heart Tetras thrive in groups, with a minimum of six individuals recommended. In larger schools, you’ll be more likely to witness their stunning, harmless displays as rival males showcase their brilliant colors. These fish are generally peaceful and get along well with others of similar size and temperament. However, they can be easily intimidated, so it’s important to avoid housing them with overly aggressive species. Additionally, keeping them with fancy long-finned fish is not advisable, as their elaborate fins may attract unwanted attention. Suitable tankmates include Corydoras catfish, dwarf cichlids, and smaller Loricariids.
