Polar Blue Tiger Parrot Cichlids are striking freshwater fish that spark some debate among enthusiasts. This hybrid species originated in Taiwan around 1986, likely resulting from a mix of Convict Cichlids and Blood Parrots. Their colors and patterns closely resemble those of Convict Cichlids. When they are young, Polar Blue Parrot Cichlids appear pale, with a white to greyish-blue hue, which deepens to a brighter blue as they grow. These fish are active swimmers and can reach about 8 inches in length, so they need a spacious aquarium. A tank of at least 100-350 liters is ideal, especially for groups. Since they can be shy, adding driftwood and hiding spots is beneficial. Polar Blue Parrot Cichlids are generally not aggressive. They are seldom bullied due to their size and have limited ability to attack, as they are large, slow swimmers with small mouths. They are great companions for other peaceful fish of similar size, but caution is needed to avoid housing them with smaller fish that could be seen as prey.
