Description

Pictus catfish 8-10cm

Pimelodus pictus are vibrant and active additions to larger tanks (4ft or more) that house medium to large peaceful fish. It’s best to keep them in groups of three or more due to their social nature; the more, the merrier! However, avoid placing them in tanks with small fish, like Neon Tetras, as these nocturnal catfish can easily prey on them with their surprisingly large mouths. The tank should feature a soft sandy substrate to protect their long sensory barbels and should be decorated with plenty of bogwood, rocks, and sturdy plants to create shaded areas. It’s also important to leave ample open swimming space in the center for these fish to explore. Ensure the water is well-oxygenated with a good flow, and regular partial water changes are essential. These fish thrive in dim lighting, so using blue-moon lighting is a great way to enjoy their nighttime activities. Smaller tanks can hinder their growth and limit their movement, so provide them with the space they need to thrive. When handling Pictus Catfish, be cautious of their sharp spines, which can easily pierce bags or skin and may get caught in nets. They tend to go into a “feeding frenzy” when food is introduced, which can be stressful for more timid species. You might also find them sold as Angelicus Pim or Pim Pictus.
