Description
Paradise Fish 3-4CM
Paradise Fish inhabit a wide variety of densely vegetated lowland environments, ranging from small, slow-moving streams and irrigation channels to rice paddies, marshes, and the sluggish backwaters of larger rivers. These labyrinth fish are also capable of colonizing relatively stagnant waters with low oxygen levels, thanks to their unique ability to breathe atmospheric air. The ideal home aquarium should be spacious and equipped with ample driftwood and tall plants that can grow to provide significant surface cover. Including floating plants can help to diffuse intense lighting, while a dark substrate and background will enhance the fish’s sense of security and allow them to display their most vibrant colors. It is advisable to design a maze-like habitat with numerous visual barriers to disrupt lines of sight, as these fish can exhibit territorial behavior. Filtration should be effective, yet water movement should be gentle to replicate the tranquil conditions preferred by these fish. Although Paradise Fish are quite adaptable and can thrive in areas with seasonal temperature variations, they exhibit their most brilliant colors when maintained at breeding temperatures above 22-24 °C. Consistent tropical temperatures may lead to premature aging of this species. It is crucial to maintain a small gap of warm air between the water’s surface and any cover slides, allowing these labyrinth fish to surface and gulp air periodically. A proper cover will also help prevent your Paradise Fish from leaping out of the aquarium if they become startled.
