: The Gold Nugget Plec is a stunning species from the Xingu river basin in Brazil. Younger fish live in groups under flat rocks in warm, shallow rapids, while adults prefer larger spaces among submerged boulders with fast-flowing, oxygenated water. To keep them happy in an aquarium, you’ll need a mature tank with a soft sand substrate, smooth rockwork, and bogwood to create plenty of shady caves and crevices. It’s important to have brisk water movement and high oxygen levels, and the water should be kept at a warmer temperature of at least 25 °C. It’s best to keep only one Gold Nugget Plec per tank, as they can be territorial and aggressive towards other bottom-dwelling fish. Choose tankmates carefully and make sure they can thrive in warm, soft water with a decent current.
