Description
Farlowella Acus – Twig catfish 8-10CM
The Twig Catfish is native to the Orinoco River basin. These slender, sedentary fish prefer areas with gentle to moderate water flow, often found among submerged roots and riverside plants. To create a suitable environment, provide a spacious aquarium filled with plenty of shady hiding spots, such as tangled driftwood, slate caves, and robust plants. Ensure efficient filtration with zones of moderate water movement, as well as quieter areas for resting away from the current. Good oxygenation is essential, and performing small, frequent partial water changes will help keep nitrate levels low, as this species is quite sensitive to organic waste accumulation. The Twig Catfish is known for its shy and peaceful demeanor, and they thrive in groups. While males may show some territorial behavior during breeding, they typically do not harm each other, especially in larger tanks with ample hiding spots. Compatible tankmates include small to medium-sized peaceful fish that prefer soft water, such as Corydoras catfish, hatchetfish, pencilfish, rasboras, and tetras. Avoid keeping them with more aggressive fish that might outcompete them for food. In older references, you might find this fish mistakenly labeled as Farlowella acus, which is a rare species seldom seen in the trade.
