The delicate charm of the Celebes Rainbowfish shines brightest in a well-planted aquarium, where they feel safe and display their lovely iridescent yellowy-green hues. Being an active shoaling species, Celebes Rainbowfish should be kept in groups of six or more of their own kind. For a long time, the only available specimens in the trade were wild-caught from the foothills of the small island of Sulawesi in Indonesia. Their natural habitat consists of clean, well-aerated, and slow-moving waters—conditions that should be mimicked in a home aquarium. Currently classified as Vulnerable on the IUCN red list, this species is now being bred in large numbers in the East to help protect the dwindling wild population. Celebes Rainbowfish are entirely peaceful and can coexist with a community of similarly sized, gentle tankmates. Great care must be taken when acclimating this species to a home aquarium, as they can be quite sensitive to fluctuations in water chemistry and temperature. Similar caution should be exercised during regular partial water changes.
