Killifishes, akin to the more commonly known livebearers, encompass extraordinary species that have adapted to arid environments by entering a dormant egg stage during droughts. This “live fast – die young” approach is characteristic of Annual killies, which often display vibrant colors to attract females, compensating for the lack of time for extended courtship. In contrast, other killifish species thrive in more stable habitats and utilize traditional breeding methods, yet males still exhibit striking courtship colors.
