Description
Dwarf Pangasius 5-6CM
Pseudeutropius brachypopterus is a lively, midwater shoaling species found in lakes and rivers. This peaceful fish is perfectly suited for spacious, planted community aquariums. The aquarium should be well-established with a dark background, tangled driftwood, and areas of thick vegetation, while leaving an open swimming area at the front. Filtration must be effective and create moderate water movement. P. brachypopterus thrives best in groups of five or more due to their strong shoaling instinct, and larger groups will encourage them to explore the open spaces. This species can coexist with most community fish without issues, except for very small fish or fry; however, avoid keeping them with large, aggressive fish as they can be easily intimidated. Suitable companions include medium-sized peaceful barbs or rasboras, rainbowfish, small loaches, Erethistes hara or E. horai moth catfish, bristlenose catfish, and deep-bodied tetras, among others. Some retailers refer to these fish as ‘dwarf Pangasius’ because of their resemblance to the shark-like tankbusters. Nevertheless, despite their similar looks, these fish will not exceed 11.5cm in length, making them a much more appropriate choice for aquariums. Interestingly, the eight long barbels can be positioned backwards and flat against the body or maneuvered forward into a shape resembling an upright umbrella without its fabric.
