This dwarf cichlid is renowned for its vibrant color patterns, especially in males. The front of their body showcases a brilliant golden yellow, while the sides and rear are adorned with stunning metallic powder blue highlights, and their fins are tipped in gold. For optimal living conditions, a dark substrate and lush plant life are ideal, providing ample hiding spots and territories among rocks and driftwood. These fish are not particular about their surroundings, so clean terracotta pots and similar items will be welcomed. Adding floating plants can help soften the light in the tank. Utilizing peat filtration and incorporating Indian Almond Leaves (Terminalia catappa) can enhance the environment to their liking. It’s important to ensure the tank has a secure lid, as these fish are known to jump. While A. borellii are typically peaceful, they may exhibit territorial behavior during breeding.
