Spotted Tiger Loach 3-4cm
The Redfin Peppered Tiger Loach is typically found in fast-flowing, clear, and well-oxygenated rivers and streams. During the rainy season, as water levels rise and temperatures decrease, these loaches migrate to inundated areas for spawning, often remaining near submerged trees, logs, and roots. The banks of these waterways are generally adorned with riparian vegetation, while the substrate consists of sand, bedrock, driftwood, and small boulders, providing a myriad of effective hiding spots. In certain regions, swift currents can be observed as water navigates through irregular rock formations. Like all botiids, these loaches should only be introduced to aquariums that are biologically mature. However, in contrast to their relatives, the Botia species, the Syncrossus genus of loaches, characterized by their pointed faces, grow larger and exhibit significant aggression and territorial behavior. It is crucial to provide a spacious aquarium with ample hiding places and visual barriers created from driftwood, smooth rounded rocks, cobbles, and pebbles of various sizes. The substrate should be free of sharp edges, as these loaches enjoy burrowing in search of food, and it is vital to protect their delicate sensory barbels from damage. Dim lighting is recommended, and a well-secured tank is essential, as these loaches are adept jumpers and can escape through even the smallest openings. Strong filtration, preferably through external canisters, along with adequate oxygenation, is necessary, as is a routine of frequent partial water changes. Similar to other fish inhabiting river environments, these loaches cannot tolerate the accumulation of organic waste, so a consistent schedule for partial water changes is imperative. As previously noted, Redfin Peppered Tiger Loaches display extreme aggression towards other fish, which can extend to their own species within the confines of a home aquarium. Nevertheless, despite their aggressive nature, they establish intricate social structures within groups, and their overall health can be adversely affected by stress.
