Bulgarian Seal Point Angelfish
Pterophyllum, commonly known as Angelfish, is a small genus of freshwater fish belonging to the Cichlidae family. These fish species are native to the Amazon Basin, Orinoco Basin, and various rivers in the Guiana Shield in tropical South America. Unlike typical cichlids, Pterophyllum species have a unique body shape – they are laterally compressed with round bodies and elongated triangular dorsal and anal fins. This distinctive shape allows them to easily hide among roots and plants, especially on vertical surfaces. In their natural habitat, angelfish are often longitudinally striped, providing them with effective camouflage. These fish are ambush predators, feeding on small fish and macroinvertebrates. Pterophyllum species are known to form monogamous pairs and typically lay their eggs on submerged logs or flattened leaves. Similar to other cichlids, they exhibit advanced brood care behaviors
