HORSE FACED LOACH 7-8CM
. When creating a habitat for this species, the substrate plays a crucial role. Since they tend to spend a lot of time buried, it’s essential to provide a fine substrate made of sand or fine gravel. If you plan to include live plants in the aquarium, avoid planting them with bare roots, as they can easily be uprooted. Instead, use pots to secure them in place, with sturdy plants like anubias being a great choice. Floating plants are another excellent option, as they help diffuse the lighting, which this species prefers. In terms of décor, incorporating driftwood and smooth rocks can create hiding spots for the fish. It’s also important to ensure good water movement, as this species thrives in an oxygen-rich environment. You might often find this fish nestled just beneath the substrate, with only its eyes visible to keep an eye on its surroundings. While they sift through the fine substrate for tiny food particles, they are generally slow swimmers but can make quick movements when startled. This species is mainly active at night. The horseface loach is typically a peaceful fish and can coexist with other gentle loaches and species that inhabit the middle and upper levels of the tank, such as barbs, danios, rasboras, and tetras. However, they thrive best when kept in groups of their own kind, so aim to have at least six together if you have the space. Within their group, they often establish a hierarchy and may defend their territories. To accommodate a school of loaches, it’s advisable to opt for a larger aquarium.
