A sizable group of these small, iridescent shoaling fish creates a striking visual in smaller softwater planted aquariums. The aquarium should feature areas of dense vegetation, incorporating shaded bogwood and floating plants to soften the light. Moderate water movement is essential for adequate oxygenation, but the current should remain gentle. Microdevario kubotai are peaceful and thrive best in either species-only setups or with other small, similarly temperamental fish; their small size and somewhat timid nature may render them unsuitable for community tanks. However, larger groups, sufficient cover, and compatible tankmates can enhance their confidence. It is crucial that the tank is well-established and receives regular small partial water changes. For feeding, small frozen foods such as baby brine shrimp, cyclops, and daphnia, along with crushed flake and micropellets, are recommended. In densely planted aquariums with large groups of well-conditioned M. kubotai, spawning is likely to occur frequently, with eggs scattered across the vegetation and decor. Although the adults may consume the eggs and tiny larvae, ample plant cover can allow some to survive to adulthood. To increase fry production, a separate breeding tank should be established with abundant Java moss or spawning mops, and one well-conditioned pair of M. kubotai should be introduced. After spawning, the adults should be carefully relocated to another aquarium.
