The Para Plec is a lovely species of suckermouth catfish that fits well in large, mature softwater tanks. In their natural habitat, these shy fish live among rocks in fast rivers, so they need good water flow and oxygen in the aquarium. Make sure to add lots of hiding spots with smooth rocks and driftwood, and allow some current to flow through these areas. While plants are not essential, they can enhance the tank’s appearance; just choose strong types that can be attached to wood and won’t be disturbed by digging. A strong filtration system is important since these fish, like other Loricariids, produce a good amount of waste. For tankmates, consider small to medium-sized tetras in groups, as well as Brochis and Corydoras catfish, which will occupy the lower levels. Para Plecs are usually peaceful, but if you have more than one, ensure there is enough space and hiding spots for them.
