Since these fish can grow to a decent size, it’s important to have a large aquarium with strong decorations that can withstand their digging habits. Adults will need a tank that is 6ft x 2ft x 2ft to thrive. It’s recommended to place driftwood and rocks at the bottom of the tank before adding substrate to prevent the fish from undermining the structures. Opt for sturdy artificial plants and make sure they are well secured, as live plants will likely be uprooted and eaten. Create hiding spots and areas for exploration, along with an open swimming space at the front of the aquarium. A good filtration system, such as an external canister, is essential due to their messy eating habits and waste production. Despite their hardiness, it’s best to maintain good water conditions for Red Parrots.
