Description
Dwarf Pencilfish 2-2.5CM
he Dwarf Pencilfish is a charming little shoaling species found in tributaries, backwaters, and swamplands, where the water flows slowly or is nearly still, surrounded by thick vegetation and a lot of leaf litter. In their natural habitat, the water is very soft and acidic, tinted a tea color due to the tannins released from decaying leaves and wood. For their home aquarium, it should be well-established, featuring a dark substrate and background, along with ample plant cover—both rooted and floating—to ensure these peaceful mid-to-top-dwelling fish feel safe. Filtration should be effective, but the water movement should be gentle. It’s best to keep these fish in groups of at least 10, and even more if possible. While dominant males might occasionally squabble with each other, as long as there are plenty of hiding spots and visual barriers for them to retreat to when needed, no serious harm should occur. Additionally, having more females than males can help minimize any minor aggression.
